April Murray was addicted to prescription drugs. She was homeless, just bouncing around from friend to friend for a place to sleep each night. Her young son was with her at the time- until she overdosed.
“Losing custody of my son was what motivated me to make changes. My caseworker told me about the housing program through Community Behavioral Health, they helped me get cleaned up, fill out the necessary paperwork to get my son back,” April said.
Thanks to stable housing, April has her 6-year-old son back and has now been clean for four years. Her 21-year-old is in college.
“The housing is wonderful. If something goes wrong, they’re right there to fix it. And my landlord is great—she’s directed me in so many ways to help me get my son back, helped me if I was behind on rent, and put me in contact with other parts of Community Behavioral Health when I needed help overcoming my addiction.”
April said she wouldn’t hesitate to direct a friend to Community Behavioral Health if they were going through a similar situation.
“You have to stick with it, follow through and really want it,” she said. “Because it’s possible. I’ve done it.”
